Unfortunate Women’s Network Logo – Reasons Why You Should Avoid $5 Logo Designers
By CreativB Studios – 19 March 2022
The logo down below looks like a practical joke at first sight, but this is an actual logo (Yeap! I was shocked too) that received A LOT of backlash for all the right reasons.
Australian Prime Minister and Cabinet’s (PM&C) new “Women’s Network” – were all over social media, but for all the wrong reasons. They recently revealed their logo which was a bit …. controversial to say the least!
People weren’t happy at all, here is a tweet from National Older Women’s Network Australia:
I thought this was satire, but it is either thoughtless or an insult. Public money was spent getting a graphic artist, choosing the designing, selecting colours, approving, printing, and publishing this logo for the Prime Minister’s and Cabinet’s Women’s Network. Poor messaging.

Another Twitter user said:
So the milkshake ad and c**k and balls Women’s Network logo both pulled after public ridicule/backlash. Your tax dollars well spent. Another captain’s pick?

The good news is that it was taken down within 48 hours, so no need to worry people!
So, what does that tell us?
Designing a logo requires much more research, thought, and evaluation than people think. Most people believe a logo shouldn’t be worth more than USD 5 Dollars and shouldn’t take more than a day to design it.
That’s why websites like Fiverr where so-called designers charge USD 5 for a logo or free logo makers like Wix logo maker are high in demand because people don’t truly understand how important a logo is for a company.
A famous graphic designer, Sagi Haviv once said
“A logo is not communication, its identification. It’s the period at the end of the sentence, not the sentence itself”
So, if the identification of a brand does not look professional, what does that tell you about the brand?
Sagi Haviv is a partner and designer at Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv. It is one of the biggest companies responsible for designing identities for US Open Tennis Championships, Conservation International, Harvard University Press, Discovery+, L.A. Reid’s Hitco Entertainment, the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum, and many more.
Reasons Why You Should Avoid $5 Dollar Logo Designers
Not a lot of thought and time put into the design: From a $5 logo designers’ perspective, putting intense amount of research and time for only $5 does not make sense nor is it practical in the long run.
Costly in the long run: Initially you might pay $5 but it could cost you a lot in terms of printing or even copy right issues.
The color selected may not be suitable for print or the design is too complicated to print cleanly. This $5 mistake could cost a company a fortune.
May not work on all formats: Imagine having a logo that only works on a few formats, as a business owner you would like your logo to be expandable and distinguishable no matter what the size or where its being placed.
Copy Right Issues: I have seen a lot of business owners on different forums talking about how they were in legal troubles because their logo or artwork matches a trademarked logo or artwork of a different company.
Could be disastrous: As you saw the backlash “Women’s Network” received due to their logo, no matter how big a company or how good the initiative, a poorly designed logo would affect its image.
Alternative to $5 Fiverr Logo Designers
Increase your budget for a professional logo designer: Now, I am not saying that you should use your entire budget for a logo design but there are budget-friendly graphic designers you can find online on Fiverr, Upwork, other freelance platforms, or even contact your local design agency.
Design the logo yourself: I would only recommend doing this when you are starting a new business and you don’t have the budget to hire a graphic designer.
For a new business, having an ok looking logo isn’t frowned upon, but it does influence your initial brand image so its best to be careful. You can always hire a graphic designer to revamp your logo later.
Online Logo Maker: I wouldn’t really recommend this route as a logo maker usually has a collection of generic elements and designs that combines with your company name and gives a logo.
But again, if you don’t have the budget nor the time to learn and design the logo yourself, you can opt for a logo maker like Wix, placeit, etc.
Conclusion
$5 Fiverr logo designers with a 24-hour turnaround may look tempting but it could lead to problems in the future as mentioned above.
It’s better to hire a professional graphic designer to make you a brand identity that works in the long run, works in all formats, is unique, and is expandable so that you don’t have to rebrand every time.
If you can’t afford a graphic designer but do have the time, you can learn and then design it yourself.
But if you can’t afford a graphic designer nor do you have the time, opt for a paid logo maker that usually costs $20-$35 initially, then you can hire a graphic designer later.
